Communing together with individuals from many cultures and diverse backgrounds creates a dynamic centrifuge of interest and a colorful meeting place.  With every home cooked meal we serve, we celebrate the reunion of  those who share our Villa Sumaya family’s dream.

At Sumaya we specialize in the wholesome goodness of retreats away from the busyness of mainstream life.  Energizing a platform for the exploration and practice of universal wisdom teachings, we nurture the cosmic urge to awaken our inner potential.  Unplugged from daily routines we relax, quieting distractions while cultivating the transformative power of the inner voice.  The renewal of vital energies is accelerated and we align with the tranquility of natural beauty, vibrant inner spaciousness and leisure time to integrate. Deeply nourishing body, mind and spirit, we tap the inherent wellspring of wisdom through our own direct perception.

Cultivating inner awareness we open gateways to self-knowledge, finding the courage to grow beyond who we have defined ourselves to be. New understandings inspire more confidence and an alignment with our deepest truth. A blossoming sense of strength, growing compassion and greater clarity naturally ensue.   Balancing our inner harmony carries us gracefully through life’s inevitable trials.  As we embody greater kindness towards self and others, we intentionally leave our world a little brighter for our contribution.

Trust is the guiding torch that sees us through, a common language of survival and success in these times of passionate promise and volcanic extremes. Our mutual ability to smile through hard times while flexibly rising to the opportunities at hand strengthens our resolution. In the face of climatic chaos, astounding economic, political and social challenges we endeavor to support and inspire a common vision of wellness.  Collectively focusing our intentions into active meditation we co-create a light generator of hope!

For thirteen years we have consciously co-created with our many group leaders, teachers and guests alike, a center flourishing with heart centered activities. We extend a supportive environment that allows for deep contemplation; reviving one’s spirit and its tangible connection to all things.  As we grow more peaceful and radiantly aware, we determinedly align our intentions with healing grace.  Honored to share our space, we celebrate the interdependence of all life; continually dedicating our platform and our piece of paradise to the highest welfare of all beings without exception!

Spring Namaste News

“I give you this to take with you:
Nothing remains as it was. If you know this, you can
begin again, with pure joy in the uprooting.”
Judith Minty, Letters to My Daughters

Spring has sprung and May showers are revitalizing  the now brilliant green hillsides. The air is fresh and once again we appreciate the seasons and what they have to offer. This time of year we pause and re-examine all aspects of our center. From creating new rooms, to designing  helpful literature, to cutting edge eclectic services, we are updating our offerings.  We hope that returning guests will see the familiar as well as something new and unexpectedly exciting. As for our first time guests, we hope they will feel as though they’ve stepped into paradise.

Based on our own visionary dreams and  the constructive feedback we receive from our clients, we are working  to create a center that supports our progressive collective growth.  As a family run, close knit operation, we appreciate the  seasons of change as a time to upgrade our intentions while skillfully  building a more sustainable sanctuary. Immense gratitude to all for their helpful evaluations, ongoing cooperation and the noble practices they’ve shared here at Sumaya.    We look forward to nurturing our collective community by  facilitating clearer communication, more environmental sustainability and enlivening year round retreat programs.

This summer we invite you to join us for a personal retreat or family vacation.  We have super special rates and many wonderful options to choose from.  Whether you want a week of yoga and spa treatments or a week full of adventure with kayaking, volcano climbing and touring ~ we can create the package that is just right for you!  We have a few exciting retreats happening in July and August, see the descriptions below.  Please consider coming to our center in sunny July or August for a summer get away.  If you are looking to an extended personal practice, we are opening our center Sept 1 -26 for this very purpose.  To support our Sangha we will have the seasons lowest rates for a 1-3 week stay.

Gathering in Sacred Silence http://www.villasumaya.com/2013/04/gathering-in-sacred-silence/ http://www.villasumaya.com/2013/04/gathering-in-sacred-silence/#comments Fri, 26 Apr 2013 19:19:30 +0000 http://www.villasumaya.com/?p=1612 Meditation-300x225Precious and few are the moments we allow ourselves to fully embrace the power and simplicity of silence. Acquiescing to the age-old tradition of silent sojourns, we nourish the heart of our own transformational journey. Beyond the distractions and chatter of our everyday lives, we touch on the vast spaciousness of our innermost truth. Meditative silence and self-inquiry effectively stimulate inner reflection, rendering soulful rejuvenation and the timeless grace of deepening spiritual clarity.

Cultivating the still point of “noble silence” takes courage and diligent mindfulness.  As we sink into direct inner experience we become aware of the necessity to go beyond the stories we constantly tell ourselves. Slowly dissolving the encumbered energies of a lifetime’s accumulation of emotional baggage, prejudices and fixated beliefs requires willpower, skillful means and sustained effort.  Trust and dedication become the essential ingredients as we bow to the illuminating force of contemplative absorption. Silently witnessing the rise and fall of our breath our tightly coiled systems begin to unwind.

Joining together we share the support and radiant inspiration of group retreats.  Collective momentum creates a dynamic field that tangibly energizes our personal intentions, anchoring our patience and resolve to go beyond our preconceived boundaries. Experiencing the tangible intimacy within the arena of silent group retreats instills profound healing and gratifying nourishment to the human spirit.

Each year Villa Sumaya holds a 10-day, house sponsored silent retreat.  Equally custom designed personal retreats for individuals and groups are available all year long. Yielding to the call of our hearts’ desire to mindfully know our inner truth paves the foundation for insightful sacred practice.  Visitors find themselves held in an exquisitely beautiful, nature based environment. Wholesome vegetarian meals and restful silence enrich the setting while a commitment to tranquility and loving kindness unite participants with compassionate, like minded practitioners.  Committing to this great act of self-love, one invites the silence to reveal its sacred secrets.  Mutually uniting our hearts and quieting our minds, our radiant inner-wisdom shines!

Awaiting the Rains http://www.villasumaya.com/2013/04/awaiting-the-rains/ http://www.villasumaya.com/2013/04/awaiting-the-rains/#comments Mon, 08 Apr 2013 22:04:47 +0000 http://www.villasumaya.com/?p=1602 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASunny, clear afternoons are beginning to give way to clouds quietly rolling in over the mountains, draping the lake in a hazy mist and signifying the upcoming return of the rains.  As our friends and neighbors who spend winters at the lake begin to return home and our high season winds down, it becomes easier to be present with the calm, stillness that always surrounds us.  During this season we are reminded that in the same way the rains restore and bring new life to the parched earth and brittle plants, they also renew us by providing us with the spaciousness for self-reflection, healing, and inner work.

Mayan Message for 12/21/12; Grounding wisdom through gratitude in everyday life! http://www.villasumaya.com/2012/12/mayan-message-for-122112-grounding-wisdom-through-gratitude-in-everyday-life/ http://www.villasumaya.com/2012/12/mayan-message-for-122112-grounding-wisdom-through-gratitude-in-everyday-life/#comments Wed, 19 Dec 2012 19:34:52 +0000 http://www.villasumaya.com/?p=1403

December 21, 2012 marks a formidable universal time passage with the end of the Mayan calendar’s long count.  Many of us feel agitated acceleration both in our personal and global realities.  This time frame is pronounced by amplified drama, denoting a challenging growth period for all of humanity.  Around the world folks are sharing alarming stories with dashing “new normal” weather patterns and heightened intensity of all kinds.  It becomes progressively easier to feel consumed with the fast paced life and the media hype around the doomsday prediction of December 21, 2012.

Having lived in the heart of the Mayan stronghold for 22 years, I have had the humbling experience to share visions of what the Maya foretell of this highly publicized prophecy.  They speak of December 21, 2012 as a “PAUSE” in universal time, during which we pass through the culmination of a grand cycle.  The configuration between the earth and the galactic center coincides this year on the winter solstice, marking the end of one era and the beginning of another.  At this time a supremely dynamic energy of wisdom and sacred knowledge will become available in the collective energy field and a new ray of light will lift humanity.

This mythic prediction sits at the core of ancient prophecy.  The message speaks of an opportunity quite like the “gap moment” in meditation when one slips into silence and opens to other levels of depth for insight.  Within this gap, flashes of awareness awaken us to vaster understandings.  The emerging light of the winter solstice presents a collective “gap opportunity.”  We are in this together catalyzing change, going beyond our current definitions of self and other, igniting powerful and necessary evolutionary transformation in consciousness for our planet.

The Maya teach that the winter solstice represents a glorious renaissance of golden potential for humanity. The paramount teaching is one of hope and the invitation to integrate more gratitude into the texture of our everyday lives.  In traditional Mayan fire ceremonies beautiful offerings are created and consumed, invoking the benevolent blessing of the eternal presence of source consciousness.  Resting in the stillness of the fire’s light invites us to journey into the depth of our hearts.  Gathering together in appreciation, we honor all living things.   We pay tribute to the heart of the sky, reaching to the heavens with sublime reverence and wings to fly.  Subsequently, as we offer appreciation for our ancestors, we bow to the heart of the earth.  The crackling radiance of the ceremonial fire brings us face to face with the wisdom of our ancient instincts to gather in ritual celebration.  Resting in silent surrender to the blazing glow, we drop into the depth of our spirit’s own true nature.

Igniting our visions and intentions through the cultivation of sacred expressions, we align ourselves with the increasing light of the winter solstice and our collective destiny.  The Maya remind us to dwell in the innocent heart of the child, prompting us to leave behind our busy minds and our conditioned concept of self.  Relaxing in our discomfort, we grow out of illusion and into the tranquility of simple presence. Cultivating deep stillness we rest, expanding our paradigms and igniting our spirits song.  Attentively energizing sacred practice we unplug from the daily grind, forgiving “self as other”; lightening our load of heavy stories and soothing the scars of life’s simple twists of fate.  As our spirits heal, and fragmented energy is coalesced, we realize that the keys to totality’s freedom lie within.  Honoring our beings as one with all cosmic creations, we align with the cycles and flow of nature, cultivating compassion and awareness for our part in the grand play.  Intentionally pulsing the inner exploration of our own evolutionary consciousness we fuel the light of our sacred purpose.

Choosing to believe in the infinite possibilities of great goodness, we rejoice in the interdependence of all life.  One being supports the next and a golden chain of luminous light unites our spirits.  Every link is equally important, no one higher or lower, greater or less than. Each being holds their irreplaceable gifts and their own personal challenges to transmute.  Knowing that “we are the Ones we’ve been waiting for” brings our collective responsibilities into harmonious resonance as we rise to the full potential of our collective wisdom.

Nurturing the ancestral fire we stir the sacred flames of our heart’s desire to know it-self.  Joining the many simultaneous global events that celebrate this solstice, we are reminded that we are cultivating the birthing of a new consciousness by igniting a light grid of hope around the world.  By openly invoking our gratitude and non-clinging awareness, for the benefit of all beings, a great wave of blessings comes roaring back to our own shores.

If you feel lost or afraid, dial back the primary Mayan message.  Inhale a deep, purifying breath and call back your power by taking a stand for love! We are the incarnate spirits on earth and we have the challenging job to connect and assist in our collective evolution by grounding light on earth. Symbolically show your gratitude to all that supports you by lighting your own internal holy fire. Energize your life force by joining the messiah of awakening potential! Feeding the spirit of Love together we will collectively ground a new ray of wisdom and hope on our planet!
